Today, ALMAS (Alliance of Latinos Motivating Action in the Suburbs) was deeply honored to be included in the DuPage County proclamation celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month 2025. The proclamation recognizes the history, heritage, and ongoing contributions of Latino and Hispanic communities, as well as the vital role organizations like ALMAS play in uplifting culture, fostering community, and empowering future leaders.

We were especially proud that the youth voice of ALMAS was front and center at this historic moment. Evangeline Topete, Co-Chair of the ALMAS Youth Advisory Council (AYAC), delivered a moving speech before the DuPage County Board.

Evangeline reflected on the progress and struggles of Latino communities, calling on all of us to stand in solidarity with immigrant families, to recognize the unifying power of celebrating culture, and to commit ourselves to justice and inclusion not just during Hispanic Heritage Month, but every day.

Her words captured the spirit of ALMAS:

  • celebrating the richness of Latino culture,

  • building leadership across generations, and

  • standing united for dignity, equity, and empowerment.

We thank DuPage County for this recognition and remain committed to our mission of motivating action in the suburbs and beyond. From September 15 to October 15, and every day, we honor the voices, stories, and contributions of Latinos and Hispanics who shape our communities.
