ALMAS in Action

ALMAS in Action embodies the organization’s commitment to driving community engagement, advocating for positive change, and empowering members to participate in vital civic activities. Through initiatives like voting participation, policy advocacy, and cultural recognition, ALMAS creates a platform where all voices are heard and valued. By championing inclusive policies, celebrating cultural heritage, and fostering direct action, ALMAS in Action builds a stronger, more connected community—ensuring that underrepresented voices are amplified and diversity is celebrated. Through collective action, ALMAS empowers individuals to shape a future of equity, opportunity, and unity.

HIGHLIGHTS

Voting Engagement: ALMAS organizes events like community meetings focused on the vital topic of voting. These gatherings emphasize the importance of voting rights, ways to stay engaged during elections, and strategies for maintaining mental well-being throughout the process. Special guest speakers provide valuable insights, helping participants understand how they can influence change through their vote.

Promoting Inclusivity and Heritage: ALMAS advocates for the celebration and recognition of diverse cultural contributions. As part of its efforts to promote inclusivity, ALMAS worked with the City of Naperville to officially recognize Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th to October 15th, 2024) and Immigrants Day (October 28, 2023), honoring the significant cultural, economic, and social contributions of Latino and immigrant communities in the area.

Civic Advocacy: ALMAS is committed to standing up for the issues that impact the community. Through activities such as publishing op-eds and speaking at Naperville City Council meetings, ALMAS ensures that the voices and values of its community are represented. This civic engagement drives the organization’s advocacy for inclusive policies, transparency, and positive change, helping to shape a more equitable and supportive environment for all residents.
